Max Planck Information and Technology (MaxIT) places great importance on the protection and security of personal data. We adhere to the relevant provisions of the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) as well as the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
On this page, you will find detailed information about which types of data are collected and processed, and for what purposes.
DOI Registration
If you decide to request a DOI name through this service, the collected registration details will be forwarded by email to the responsible contact at MaxIT and will not be stored beyond that. Your personal data (name, email address, and IP address) will only be used to provide the requested service to your satisfaction and to address any follow-up questions.
Log Files
For technical reasons, our servers store personal connection data in log files when you access this blog.
The following data are stored temporarily:
- Your IP address
- Date and time of your access to the page
- Address of the accessed page
- Address of the previously visited website (referrer)
- Name and version of your browser/operating system (if transmitted)
The collection of data for the provision of the website and the storage of data in log files is essential for the operation of the website. These data are used solely for the immediate provision of our services, for troubleshooting, or for defending against attacks, and are automatically deleted after a short period.
The legal basis for the temporary storage of data and log files is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Storage in log files is carried out to ensure the functionality of the website. Additionally, the data serve to optimize the website, to troubleshoot issues, and to ensure the security of our information technology systems. These purposes also constitute our legitimate interest in data processing.
Cookies
To make it easier for you to use our website, we use so-called “session cookies.” These are small text files that are stored on your hard drive only for the duration of your visit to our website and are deleted when you close your browser, depending on your browser settings. These cookies do not retrieve any information stored about you on your hard drive and do not affect your PC or your files.

Data Transfer
The bibliographic metadata required for DOI registration of scientific content (URL, creator, title, publisher, publication year, resource type) are transmitted to the service provider DataCite – International Data Citation Initiative. DataCite acquires the metadata under the terms of the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal (CC0 1.0) Public Domain Dedication and makes them publicly available. DOI registration does not include any transfer of intellectual property rights (IPR) related to the scientific content.
In addition, your personal data will only be transmitted to government institutions and authorities in cases required by law or for criminal prosecution in the event of attacks on our network infrastructure.
Right to Access, Rectification, Erasure, Restriction, and Objection
In accordance with § 34 BDSG (Art. 15 GDPR), you have the right at any time to request comprehensive information from MaxIT about the data stored about you.
Likewise, pursuant to § 35 BDSG, you may at any time request the correction (Art. 16 GDPR), deletion (Art. 17 GDPR), or restriction (Art. 18 GDPR) of your personal data.
Furthermore, you have the right, pursuant to Art. 21 GDPR, to object to the processing of your personal data if there are reasons arising from your particular situation.
You may submit your objection to MaxIT by post, email, or fax.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). For MPG, this is the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision, P.O. Box 606, 91511 Ansbach, Germany.
Changes to the Data Protection Policy
